Baking for Family and Donkey

Deva's 21st birthday was on Tuesday, and in honor of it, I recreated an oldie but goodie, the hamburger cake of her 6th birthday celebration:

I used Nigella Lawson's Coca Cola cake recipe, and the vegan frosting from the Fauxstess Cupcakes in Vegan with A Vengance. The original took two cake mixes and three tubs of frosting. Since this one was for only Deva and her friends, instead of a whole kindergarten class, I shrank it down a bit. The hamburger is unfrosted cake and oreo cookie bits, the tomatoes and pickles are frosted lemon sourcream cookies. From all reports, it was delicious!

We are also baking for Donkey, and this week I am transitioning from February hearts to March butterflies. Izzy decorated a few butterflies in the realistic method. Didn't he do a great job?

And here are some very cheery hearts. It is actually sunny here today, but the forecast is for more rain, so these will definitely brighten someone's day!

And a closeup of the retro aqua cookie with moon and stars sprinkles.
